Maintenance Supervisor

Bristol, TX
The Maintenance Supervisor role is based at the Bristol Sand & Gravel Plant located in Bristol, TX and reports directly to the Plant Manager.  

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the fixed and mobile assets of Bristol and Rosser Sand & Gravel Plants. Both plants combined have a total production volume of approximately 2.5m TPY. The position will have up to 7 direct reports (hourly employees).

What you’ll get to do
  • Schedule and supervise the work to maintain equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Oversee the work performed by maintenance crews and outside contractors as required for each job to ensure completion in a timely and quality manner.
  • Manage any urgent or breakdown jobs as required to keep equipment running and minimize downtime.
  • Provide development of direct reports and motivates staff resulting in a reliable and competent work force.
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel toward expedient problem resolution.
  • Execution of these specific duties will be achieved through the following:
  • Schedule, assign, plan and monitor the work of maintenance shop personnel to ensure completion of the tasks in a timely and quality manner.
  • Coordinate and communicate anticipated jobs and provides input when stores stocks need to be increased or altered, for upcoming jobs to maintain maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate with management team to develop work schedules, equipment usage schedules, priority of mechanical expenditures and procedures for equipment and appliance maintenance to meet overall plant goals.
  • Prepare material and labor estimates to develop project cost estimates and plant budgets.
  • Monitor the acquisition and use of materials to meet productivity and budgetary goals.
  • Maintain time, work orders, materials, equipment and other mechanical shop records and submit reports to plant management to contribute to the continual evaluation of operational efficiency and costs.
  • Determine appropriate training for employees and evaluating their skills, abilities, safety practices and behavior to maintain the necessary skills to perform their jobs.
  • Plan the schedule of the staff including assigning work and overtime as required to meet maintenance needs.
  • Provide input into the design and implementation of mechanical aspects of projects to ensure tasks can be accomplished in a quality, cost-effective, and timely manner.
  • Ensure the application of the plant’s rules of conduct and health & safety protocols during maintenance procedures to minimize injuries and lost time incidents.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and provide feedback on unsafe working conditions or signs of equipment breakdowns.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance support to the plant for all shifts by participating in the plant’s on call program. This includes evaluating and determining the course of action for maintenance incidents after hours and on weekends while on call and may require on-site supervision of the resolution to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that Maintenance department tools and equipment are in good working condition and that adequate stocks of consumables are maintained to allow maintenance activities to occur as scheduled.
Essential Experience and Skills
  • 10 years of mechanical repair and maintenance experience which includes 5 year of Maintenance supervision experience; OR,
  • Completion of a technical training program in mechanical repair and maintenance AND three years of relevant experience which includes 1 year of supervisory experience; OR,
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant experience, training and/or education.
  • Prior Maintenance Supervision experience in aggregates operation preferred.
  • Prior experience working with large heavy industry machinery and equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead others.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to perform tasks that include walking, climbing equipment, working within confined spaces, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to provide coverage during off-shift hour and weekends as required
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • Experience managing vendors and contractors
