This position is responsible for supervising a production crew and ensuring the safe production of coal, meeting production, cost, and efficiency goals and quality standards. The incumbent coordinates mining information with the mine foreman and other production and prep crew. Provides leadership in safety, compliance, employee development, and continuous improvement. The employee must have the ability to operate and have a good working knowledge of all underground equipment. 
  • Plans activities in the section to accomplish the mining plan for his/her shift and for the following shift. Attend shift change meetings to coordinate with on-coming shift(s). Participates in developing contingency plans. 
  • Consistently models and teaches “Safety as a Value” to ensure an injury-free workplace 
  • Develops, supports, and implements a proactive continuous improvement approach to productivity, safety, and quality. 
  • Recommends materials and supplies to ensure lower costs. 
  • Ensures accurate and continuous use of SAP for work orders, requisitions, etc. 
  • Makes decisions affecting the section regarding methods, roof control, ventilation, and compliance on a daily basis. 
  • Ensures compliance with existing MSHA requirements and deploys new requirements to the crew, trains crew in compliance adherence. 
  • Ensures accurate record-keeping of production, downtime, staffing, CI, JOBS, etc. 
  • Participates in weekly safety meetings, develops, implements, and monitors safety systems, pre-work examinations, and internal safety monitoring processes. 
  • Participates in Professional Management Plan (PMP) evaluation system and consistently reviews goals with supervisor throughout PMP cycle and meets deadlines. 
  • Develops and grows crew members in areas of leadership, cross-training, skills development, and teamwork approach to problem-solving. 
  • May be assigned to interface with inspectors to diminish citations and citable circumstances underground; maintains proper record-keeping; ensures compliance of underground operations. 
  • In coordination with Human Resources Coordinator, mine Clerk and Training Foreman plans and delivers appropriate training, documents training hours. 
  • Ensures staffing assignments are accurate and utilizes Integrative to manage and ensure the accuracy of employee time, absences, and vacations. 

Experience & abilities you will need:
  • High School 
  • 3+ years of experience in underground coal operations required. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in sciences or engineering a plus. 
  • Must have current Colorado Mine Foreman Certification. 
  • Ability to organize and effectively complete assigned tasks; plan, develop, communicate, and develop crew; ensure engagement of the workforce. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, materials manuals, schematics, and mining regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately and precisely. Ability to communicate with internal customers, vendors, visitors, inspectors, and employees. Ability to develop and deliver relevant training. 
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to the position. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations. Evaluate the results of projects, training, and implementation. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
