Sr Electrical Controls Engineer

New Braunfels, TX
Monitors the operation of all plant production systems by using computer information and field observations and measurements.

Analyzes and summarizes process information drawing conclusions related to improvement opportunities available and strategies to realize them.

Works with the instrument team to insure accurate and consistent on-line data.
  • Support the Plant in sustaining an injury free workplace and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Supervise process control systems, Network infrastructure and instrumentation of a Cement plant operation.
  • Maintain the control system of the plant, execute and control projects under $500K in the plant to keep systems up to date.
  • Analyze control system failures finding the root cause of them, reducing, or eliminating them and addressing hardware and software malfunctions.
  • Actively participate in updating and improve process, automation standards, control procedures and processes to improve the performance of the operation.
  • Troubleshoot control & field instrumentation issues, network infrastructure problems and resolve maintenance and calibration issues.
  • Oversee and improve the performance of the terminal control systems to ensure backups, upgrades and spare parts are properly maintained to sustain high reliability.
  • Support the Plant (and Terminals when necessary) in advancing control strategies, Control loop creation and tuning, program updates and training.
  • Will directly supervise as needed, electricians, instrumentation, maintenance, and production personnel in day-to-day maintenance of control and support systems along with contractors onsite.

BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering degree preferred or 10+ years of process control and instrumentation in lieu of degree

Minimum of 5 years’ work and supervisory experience in manufacturing preferably in cement manufacturing, mining, aggregates, lime, or related industry a plus, but not necessary

Adhere to or always exceed all MSHA and Company rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while in plant
  • Proficient computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Provide training in operation of control systems to personnel to achieve safe and efficient operation of plant processes.
  • Electrical systems
  • Industrial power infrastructure including 3 phase 480 VAC and 4160 VAC
  • Instrumentation
  • Process controls
  • PLCs and HMIs, such as Allen Bradley SLC 500, Siemens, etc.
  • Process control software, ladder logic and control programming such as Wonderware, Polcid, Schneider Unity block programming
  • Siemens programming software WinCC
  • Basic Hydraulic Analyzing
  • Ability to troubleshoot and install, computer hardware and software
  • Ability to work in Historian Database
  • Networking including fiber optics, ControlNet, Ethernet, and   DH+
  • Proficient in Electrical Drawings / Auto Cad
  • Available on call 24/7 for Plant support
  • Maintaining all PCs in Control Automation areas
