The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the quality control lab for the Northern VA/DC Concrete Operations. You will manage a team of a Quality Control Supervisor and nine Quality Control Technicians. The quality control lab supports approximately twenty-five ready mix plants and is responsible for performing tests in the lab as well on job sites.
You will partner with sales, operations, and dispatch to provide job site support to help ensure excellent customer service. You will trouble shoot and solve customer issues as needed and work with outside agencies such as Project Engineers and Architects on technical issues. You will ensure that the lab maintains laboratory accreditation, necessary and calibrated equipment, and all necessary records.
You will represent the company at pre-pour meetings and trade associations. You will develop mix designs and trial batches for testing. You will perform ASTM tests on fresh concrete, hardened concrete (Windsor probe, core drilling and other tests as required) and will review project and DOT specifications.

Skills You’ll Need:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in the concrete or related industry
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred
- Certified ACI Field Technician-Grade I, and ability to obtain both ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician-Grade I and Virginia DOT Concrete Plant Technician Certification within one year
Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and guidance to employees, both direct and indirect reports. Must be able to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, OSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.
Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.
Flexibility. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
