Experience and abilities you will need:

Five to ten years’ experience in cement manufacturing required.
  • Two years’ experience and knowledge of process control systems such as ECS required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in supervising others required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience creating, using and working with spreadsheets to maintain required data required.
  • Skill with basic math and algebra concepts
  • Skill in managing financial concepts such as budgeting, balance sheets and general accounting concepts.
  • Skill in scheduling shift personnel to manage holidays and vacations for a 24 hour and 7 day per week operation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written methods.
  • Ability to write proposals, job bids, monthly reports, cost analysis, personnel related documents such as performance reviews, and provide presentations to staff and employees at regularly scheduled meetings and events.
  • Ability in using Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability in keeping accurate records and documentation dealing with kiln outages, employee vacation hours, and budgeting.

What you will do:
Manages and directs the operation of the Production Department to achieve the highest quality cement to meet customer requirements and needs while maintaining an efficient, productive, and safe plant. Partners and coordinates with all departments within plant to achieve production and plant goals and objectives.
 
Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
 
  • Manages efficiency, throughput, and quality of kiln operation to achieve and maintain budgeted cost per ton.
  • Partners with shipping staff to set up the grinding schedule to achieve targeted volumes and meet time constraints based on the specific types of material and grinds.
  • Creates monthly budgetary numbers to determine the schedule necessary to achieve the targeted goals related to the kilns and mills.
  • Executes effective schedule for mill and kiln operation using monthly inventory budget numbers, goals for efficient use of power, demand for different types of cement, and quality requirements for all product types.
  • Supports successful operation of the plant by coordinating effective downtime and minimizing unplanned down time.
  • Uses prior years’ experience and information on possible failures to equipment.
  • Orders raw materials and consumables such as brick, mill balls, and chain to support annual operational needs including the kiln outage.
  • Coordinates with Production Manager to evaluate performance of control room leaders and production operators, uses evaluations to determine training and developmental needs, corrective or disciplinary actions, promotions and terminations.
  • Deals with employee issues communicated and plans shift schedules taking into consideration the vacation and holidays of the staff within the department.
  • Provides materials, equipment and information needed for the safety of the department and the safety of department staff.
  • Prepares equipment, materials, and contractor services needed to accomplish a safe and efficient outage.
  • Schedules arrival of all needed equipment, materials and contract services to perform outage.
  • Uses prior year’s needs and annual activity to provide an updated assessment of work scope.
  • Assists plant in achieving compliance with federal requirements by managing schedule of staff to complete Mine Safety and Health Administration annual training requirements.
  • Ensures all other required training such as First Aid, Storm Water and Opacity training are completed. Collaborates with Quarry, Lab and Maintenance Departments to schedule mill availability and materials required for the operation.
  • Communicates with these departments for needed changes to the set product targets and works with them to determine necessary changes to achieve those needs.
  • Participates and is active member of Continuous Improvement Plant Staff meetings.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the sustainability initiative goals as outlined.
  • Frequently communicates with off shifts about projects and concerns that they need to be aware of such as temperatures and that would impact them.
