Mechanical Maint Supervisor

New Braunfels, TX

This professional will be in charge and responsible for all aspects of the bag-houses maintenance and operation, as well as plant utilities such as compressed air systems, air dryers, overhead cranes/hoists, freight/passenger elevators, and the process water systems; placing emphasis with safety and environmental compliance and also cost control and equipment performance.  This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to perform and reinforce the safety philosophy and beliefs; promoting safety trainings and drive the safety talk and activities
  • Follow proper guidelines and maintain all safety paperwork up-to-date. Provide safety training for employees as required by MSHA and Martin Marietta standards
  • Direct the daily operations of the mechanical maintenance team. The expectation is the majority of the time for this supervisor to be in the field overseeing and providing directions for the crews that are performing the maintenance activities
  • Responsible for the execution of all work orders planned and unplanned (reactive) for his team and proper feedback to the maintenance system, returning the work order(s) in a timely manner
  • Maintain clear communication between crews, peers and management
  • Perform frequent routes to inspect and evaluate the execution of all work orders including housekeeping/safety/organization and the quality of work performed by the crews
  • Develop plans for short/long term objectives for maintaining equipment in a safe and cost-effective manner including preventive and major maintenance schedules, budgets and planning for capital expenditures
  • Develop maintenance SOPs, trainings and auditing the process
  • Purchase supplies/maintenance items within optimum levels to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime in all plant operations
  • Maintain/analyze maintenance records on machinery and equipment
  • Develop/train personnel, monitor/document performance and wages administration (Kronos)
  • Conduct meetings with parts and equipment service suppliers/vendors, providing information and helping procurement to negotiate the best prices, terms and contract agreements in compliance with procurement policy
  • Operate computer system for maintenance, purchasing, usage history, parts control and location
  • Participate in the Maintenance Supervisor on call program
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent - related college degree preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of maintenance experience in a cement production operation or similar industrial environment
  • Some supervisory experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be knowledgeable in areas of mechanics, computers, basic operating systems software (MS office), process analyzers and basic electrical controls
  • Must be knowledgeable in areas of pneumatics, hydraulics, and some basic chemistry
  • Work requires the ability to read and understand operating manuals, blueprints and schematics
  • Must understand and support preventive maintenance and use of reliability engineering principles to optimize plant efficiency
  • Ability to read and use measuring tools such as micrometers, squares, levels, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and safety record
  • Proficient – reading, writing (English) and math skills
  • Must have a proactive attitude and ability to handle stress and pressure
  • Ability to direct, motivate and coach activities of others in a team environment
  • Ability to manage outside contractors
  • Excellent work ethic and be a team player. High standard of performance and dedication
  • Ability to work other than day shift and be subject to call outs after hours
  • Ability to travel occasionally by automobile/plane
  • Ability to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must understand and comply with lock-out procedure and safety requirements
